Our Story
Under the leadership of Pastor Earl Grant Jr. and First Lady Ivory Grant, Covenant Community Church legally incorporated on August 27, 2007. Pastor and First Lady, together with six other families were the founding families for this assembly of saints.
Covenant CC held its first worship service on September 30, 2007 at Thousand Oaks Baptist Church, San Antonio, TX. We formally commenced services in that venue on October 7, 2007 with more than 250 persons attending.
This relationship continued for 5 years, over which time Covenant CC grew its membership and established financial credentials sufficient to support transitioning into our own facilities. We are forever blessed and thankful to Thousand Oaks Baptist Church for supporting us in our beginnings.
The membership of Covenant CC has always been a prayerful and generous congregation. On August 21, 2008, just one-year after being incorporated, Covenant CC purchased 7.2 acres of undeveloped land at our current location in north central San Antonio. In November 2011 by way of faithful giving, purposeful planning and focused stewardship, construction of a 10,000 square foot multi-purpose building began. The new building was completed and occupied in September 2012. The successful transition of Covenant CC from startup tenant to property owner and developer was barely 5 years. Another testament to what only God can do.
Membership and attendance at Covenant CC blossomed rapidly. To the extent that by 2018, Covenant CC was challenged with demand for increased seating in the sanctuary and need for additional childcare/nursery, classroom, meeting, and administrative space. On March 6, 2020 construction contracts and financial agreements were signed. One week later on March 13, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a national emergency in the United States. And on March 15, 2020 our last fully attended worship service in the sanctuary. The pandemic shutdown gave us an opportunity to expand our project scope and include renovating the existing sanctuary and grow. After being closed for more than 15 months, on Sunday June 6, 2021, Covenant CC members and guests returned to an enlarged sanctuary and a new administration/education facility.
Many churches suffered losses and setbacks during this pandemic season. Yet, by God’s grace, Covenant CC is blessed to continue in its mission. For we know that...
